Founder Success Story QnA
Could you please give an introduction about yourself?
My name is Matthew, I am 31 years old, and I’m from Sydney, Australia. I joined The Real World in November 2022. I was pretty dormant for about a year because I was working full-time in an accounting and finance role and playing semi-professional football. My wife and I had started a little wedding design and style business around the same time I joined. I initially juggled trying to start an agency and running our business, but I decided to focus solely on our business. Since doubling down, we have scaled from making very small amounts to averaging 5 to 6K a month, which is actually closer to 7K a month on average.
What would you attribute most to that increase from 1-2K to 7K now?
There were a lot of good lessons in the Business Mastery campus regarding sales, marketing, strategy, and planning. It was mostly the marketing aspect and understanding who you are speaking to and who your target market is. I had to learn how to have conversations with girls, understanding the image of our brand and speaking their language. This concept led me to the Copywriting Campus with Professor Andrew. I really like how he steps out the whole process of understanding your market. I got a good start from the Business Campus, but the Copywriting Campus helped me dive deeper into the technical approach.
What led up to you joining The Real World?
I had been following Andrew Tate and came across The Real World. It was during the transition from Hustler’s University to The Real World, and there was a good FOMO offer. I had the money to spend, and looking back, the value for money is hands down more than anywhere else. I’ve done university degrees and professional qualifications, and I’ve got more value from $50 a month here than thousands of dollars elsewhere. I didn’t act on it for the first year because I was time-poor with work and training, but eventually, I had a mindset shift and started taking it seriously.
Why are you awake at 5 a.m. doing this interview?
My days are pretty stacked, so if I have to squeeze in an extra hour, I try to wake up an hour earlier. I look at my calendar and see where I can find the time to fit everything in.
What does your average day look like?
I have a 9-to-5 job, so I wake up around 5:30 a.m. to have a morning routine, exercise, or go to the gym. After work, I spend most of the night working on the business. I try to segment my time in blocks throughout the day with a checklist of things I need to do. On Saturdays, I balance family time and work time. I prioritize God and family first, which is a value also reinforced by the community. I generally plan my week before Monday starts to see what time I need.
Do you plan on continuing your 9-5 or do you want to scale the business full-time?
When I first started, my vision was to scale the business to the point where I could quit my 9-5 and spend that time entirely on the business. I’m still a bit away from justifying quitting due to financial obligations, but we are on a very good trajectory. We’ve more than doubled what we made last financial year, so things are looking promising.
What are your plans for the future?
In the short term, our financial target is to get to 10K a month. Personally, we are looking to start a family. For the business, we are planning to upgrade our service offering. Currently, we are mostly an e-commerce store selling bridal wear and styling pieces. We are looking into getting into the actual styling of weddings, analyzing top players to see what we can do better. We plan to launch marketing for this new service once my wife fully recovers from surgery.
How did you go about learning to speak the language of your target market?
I realized I needed to understand the demographic most likely to buy our product: 25 to 35-year-old women, mostly from Sydney. They speak differently than a middle-aged man. You wouldn’t say “hi lovely” to a plumber. I had to understand their position, get on the same page as them, and build trust. This lesson is common across the campuses—identifying the target market, their pain points, and how to help them.
What advice would you give to people unsure about joining The Real World?
First, it’s not a scam. Second, $50 is not a lot of money for the value provided. It is the best value for money education I’ve seen, better than university or postgraduate qualifications. Every lesson gives you an action to implement, which is the best way to learn. There are many paths you can take, but my advice is to pick one path and stick to it. Head down, bum up, and you will start to experience rewards.
How can people find out more about you or contact you?
