Introduction
Many entrepreneurs struggle with the transition from small, inconsistent freelance checks to a sustainable business model. Miguel, a partner at Funneling Media, successfully navigated this path by focusing on high-ticket agency scaling through disciplined sales processes and strategic outreach. By implementing proven sales conversion strategies, he helped take an existing company from consistent five-figure months to a projected $200,000 in cash collected in a single month. This breakdown explores how he moved from $4 McDonald’s meals to closing $30,000 deals.
Founder Success Story QnA
What was your life like before joining the real world?
For most of 2022, I was doing freelancing on my own accord. I was making small checks here and there, but the issue was I was very inconsistent. I wasn’t able to consistently show up, and I found myself sometimes having money and sometimes having nothing. I was going to McDonald’s and grabbing four-dollar meals because that’s all I could get. When I did have money, I was doing a lot of partying and dumb crap.
What was the turning point for you?
Meeting the person I work with today. He came in a little bit after I joined the real world and I started listening to Andrew Tate. I was sick and tired of being broke and not living at the level I knew I could reach. I flew across the world to India to get away from the crap I had back at home in California. I just put my head down and started working because my business partner is based there.
Did you instantly choose the freelancing campus or try other things?
I joined a couple of campuses right off the bat: e-commerce, copywriting, and freelancing. I was active in all three, but I found my home in freelancing because it was the most relevant to me. My main source of income is acquiring clients and making deals, so that’s where I found my home to speak to others doing the same thing and provide value.
How did you help scale the company?
This company, Funneling Media, preceded me joining. My partner had been running it for a few years and was looking for someone to scale. He brought me in for sales. In December, we did over $50,000, and for January, we set our sights on $200,000 in cash collected. We are reviving a lot of deals that didn’t happen in the prior months.
How has the material in the real world contributed to your success?
It is very useful to refer to what Dylan, the professor, has seen success in. When we are doing cold email campaigns or thinking about marketing messaging and sales conversations, I refer to his material to ensure I’m not forgetting anything obvious. Most freelancers do deals for a few hundred or a couple thousand dollars, but I’m closing deals at $20,000 to $30,000.
What is the biggest mistake you made when first starting out?
Starting out without real, true guidance from someone who was successful. When I was 16, I pulled myself out of school to focus on skills, but I had no guidance. I went on YouTube, tried to learn e-commerce, and spent eight months and hundreds of dollars to get nowhere. If the real world existed back then, I’d probably be a millionaire today because mentors make the path so much faster.
Is there a story behind the plaque behind you?
Yes, this is our company’s Two Comma Club award. It’s an award given by ClickFunnels to companies that scale an offer from zero to a million dollars. This is for the Ferrari Agency, our high-ticket offer that we’ve scaled past a million in sales, and we hope to do between one and five million this year.
