Founder Success Story QnA

How was your life before joining the real world or Hustler’s University?

Before I joined, I was super broke and I couldn’t even make my credit card payments. I was living in my mom’s basement, and besides being in okay shape, nothing was really going for me. I’d had a few jobs, but I figured out that I didn’t really want to work a job. I wanted to be location independent and make my own money online without trading my time for money or driving to work to talk to a boss.

Why did you choose copywriting out of all the available methods?

All the other methods require money, and I had no money when I started out. Copywriting makes sense because you can start from zero and you can scale to pretty much anything.

What makes this learning environment better than trying to learn yourself on the internet?

In the real world, you have a millionaire professor like Andrew Bass. He’s a multi-millionaire taking time out of his day to drop into the chats and create lessons. He started as a copywriter himself and scaled to being a multi-millionaire. He holds morning power-up calls and drops insights on how to stay in the game, how not to get burnt out, and how to keep doing your prospecting and outreach. The community is also cut into distinct segments like the Legions, which function like a tribe where we hold monthly competitions to see who can get more clients.

How much time did you put into copywriting when you started?

When I started out, I actually put in about three hours a day. The recommended amount from Andrew Bass was one to two hours, but I just decided I didn’t have anything else to do, so I put in three. Eventually, it got to a point where I was doing six hours of writing a day. Now, whenever I’m awake, I’m working. That whole work-life balance thing people talk about is not for me. If I’m awake, I’ve got things to do.

Can you tell us more about your $5K a month win?

I got a retainer client and was making over $2,000 a month. Then I got another one recently that took me to $5,000. It is much more impressive to get somebody on retainer than to do single jobs. I’ve been working with a client since June, and he keeps coming back month after month. The newest client is a brother from the War Room, so the details are somewhat confidential, but he’s already started paying me more.

What are your top three lessons from this experience?

Number one is you should всегда act with speed. You build momentum when you move fast, and that’s when the upward spiral happens. Number two is you have to be able to work through burnout. Burnout isn’t a disease; it just means you don’t feel like doing it, but you have to do it anyway to feed your family. Number three is realizing there are people you would disappoint by not taking action, like your ancestors or your future children. They count on you to move toward the best possible direction.

What is a realistic expectation for when someone will start making money?

For me, it took a few weeks. I contacted one of my friends who needed copywriting work, and that’s how I made my first $150. It’s definitely possible to pay for your subscription within the first month. They teach you where to find clients and how to write persuasive copy—it doesn’t even have to be salesy; you can write content emails or blog posts and still make a lot of money.

What do you say to people who think the market is saturated?

Saturated markets are a good thing. If you’re actually good at what you do, you’re going to stand out. It only takes about a month of dedicated effort to learn the skill well enough to get clients. You can’t really fail if you just keep going and refuse to give up.
